Oncologists already know this. Patients rarely hear it said so plainly.
"The very things that you use to cure cancer actually cause cancer."
Dr. Jason Fung is talking about chemotherapy and radiation. Both work by damaging cells. And in his model, chronic cellular damage is exactly what pushes a cell toward cancer in the first place.
"If you give chemotherapy and you give enough chemotherapy, 10 years down the line, you can have a different cancer that arose because of your chemotherapy or because of your radiation."
His point isn"t that treatment is worthless. It"s that "just kill the bad cells" carries a cost we don"t always count.
"So the things that you use to cure the cancer can cause a cancer. Why? Because they cause cellular damage."
