Agent mora razrešiti težaven primer, za katerega bo tvegal tudi svoje življenje.

Jack Ryan postane svetovalec ameriškega predsednika. Razvozlati poskuša smrt predsednikovega znanca in vplivnega poslovneža. Ker je z umorom povezan kolumbijski preprodajalec mamil Ernesto Escobedo, predsednik iz maščevanja proti njemu uperi skrivno vojno. Ryan se temu upre in se vmeša v njegov načrt. S tem si pridobi nove sovražnike v vladnih vrstah in se znajde na begu za življenje.

Film je posnet po knjižni uspešnici Toma Clancyja.
